Play Partners Batak
Partners Batak is the team version of the game: the player sitting across from you is your partner, and your bids and scores pool together. Winning becomes a coordination game — this page covers partners rules, team tactics and the free tables.
What is partners Batak?#
In partners Batak the table splits into two teams: facing seats (0–2 and 1–3) pair up. Everyone still makes their own bid, but at the end of the round the team's score is the sum of both partners.
In classic Batak everyone plays for themselves; in partners Batak, winning a trick for your partner scores for you too. The game shifts from individual hand strength to team coordination.
How do the teams form?#
- Facing seats form a team: you and the player directly across from you are partners.
- The two players beside you are the opposing team; since turns always pass to the right, opponents play back to back.
- At the end of the round, team score = the sum of both partners' scores; rankings are per team.
- One partner's batak penalty hits the whole team — balancing risky bids with your partner matters.
Bidding and scoring in partners Batak#
The bid is still simultaneous: everyone declares 0 or a number from 3 to 13. When the bids are revealed, each team's total target becomes visible — the sum of both partners' bids.
Scoring stays individual but is tallied together: each partner earns or pays for their own bid (+/−bid × 10, zero bids ±50); at round end these land on the team sheet. Extra tricks still earn the team nothing.
Differences from classic Batak#
The rest of the rules are unchanged: spades are always trump, following suit is mandatory, 13 tricks are played. The difference is psychological — once you see your partner's bid, you adapt your cards to it.

Partners Batak strategy#
- If your partner bid high, feed them tricks: sacrifice from your own hand to carry aces and trumps to your partner.
- If your partner declared 0, the leading burden is yours: pressure opponents with low cards without handing your partner a trick.
- If the opposing team's total bid is high, hunt for the set: a single missed trick writes a batak penalty onto their sheet.
- Hold back a long spade sequence: the team that exhausts the opponents' trumps rules the final tricks.
- Keep surrender in mind: in a hopeless position, surrendering and fixing the penalty can save you from a bigger batak.
